Party Mission

The mission of the Randolph County Democratic Party, is to make sure that we have a working two party system in Randolph County, that brings forth great candidates that anyone would be proud to support and vote for.

We want to see open government, good leadership, economic prosperity, and educational excellence be the priorities represented by our local government.

We acknowledge that political decisions effect us when we rise (the time has been set by our government), turn on a light (the rates for the electricity has been set by an elected official), watch something on tv (controlled by the FCC), and well you get the idea.

Everyday someone hired by, or appointed by someone that you have elected to office affects your family. That is why our mission is to have great candidates and why we put so much focus on registering new voters and getting more people involved in the political process.

Party History

Gov. Isaac Pusey Gray, was born in Pennsylvania, but moved to Union City, in Randolph County when he was 27. He later served in the Civil War, fighting for the North. After returning he was elected to be a State Senator, and then was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1876. He then became Governor in 1884 and served as Governor from 1885-1889 as a Democrat.

He is best known for having locked the door to the Indiana Senate and forcing the ratification of the 15th Amendment to the US Constitution by the state of Indiana. This amendment gives the right to vote to all American Citizens regardless of color, race or creed.

Gov. Gray is buried in the Gray family mausoleum in the Union City Cemetery in Union City. He is one of the many reasons that we our proud to be Union City Democrats.
